THE COACHES' COMMENT

The second annual CCGS Ruby Miller Scholarship Scramble was held on June 4 at Indian Tree Golf Club in Arvada.  The weather was great and 47 enthusiastic golfers teamed up to enjoy golf, lunch, and prizes.  About $2000 was raised for the scholarship fund through entry fees and other donations.  Four scholarships are awarded annually to senior girls desiring to go into coaching.   Thanks to all who participated in the tournament and thanks also to coaches who encouraged their athletes to apply for the scholarships.

The team of Annette Kvamme (Adams City), John Mann (Adams City). Lo Hunter (Evergreen, ret.), and Larry Schreiner combined to shoot a 67, a new tournament record, two strokes better than last year's winning score.

Next year's tournament is tentatively set for the second Friday in June.  Watch for the entry blank in the Coaches' Comment next spring.

Anyone desiring to serve on the committee for the tournament should contact Mary Kvamme at 303-421-8392.  If you know of any business which would like to sponsor the tournament please call Mary.

The CCGS Ruby Miller Scholarship was established in order to recognize senior athletes who plan to go into coaching.  The award also honors Ruby Miller (Adams City, ret.) one of the most respected coaches in Colorado sports history.

We hope coaches will talk to their athletes, find out their future plans, and encourage them to apply for this scholarship.  There are usually four awards of $500.

Congratulations once again to our 2004 Ruby Miller Scholarship winners!

Nothing seems official anymore unless you have a web site!

We are in the process of catching up with the times and started building a web site!  Nothing fancy, but it might make our lives a little easier to keep up with CCGS information.  Right now it is in the construction/trail phase and it is posted on a free web server so you might see some advertisements.

You will be able to view past newsletters, scholarship info, download forms, and even submit all-state ballot information.  Everything currently on the web site works so check it out and use the “Feedback” form to let me know what you think including any additional information you think should be on the web site.

The address is: www.angelfire.com/alt2/ccgs.

Thank you,

HALL OF FAME NOMINATIONS

The Colorado Coaches of Girls Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1979 to honor persons who dedicated their lives promoting girls and women’s sports in Colorado.

As a member of CCGS, you have the opportunity to nominate someone who has helped to develop girls and women’s athletic opportunities in your community and in the state of Colorado.  Hall of Fame members must have been an active member of CCGS or worked with CCGS in their athletic endeavors.  You may know someone who has spent endless hours or timeless energy building athletic programs for females.  For younger members, review your mentors and more experienced members review your colleagues.

Nominate today by sending a letter of nomination to: CCGS, Hall of Fame Nomination, P.O. Box 1750, Arvada, CO 80001.  The nomination should include why you believe this person is deserving of Hall of Fame status.  Please include the school affiliation of the nominee and the sport(s) the nominee impacted as well as the person’s current address, phone and e-mail (if possible).  Help us honor those who have carried the torch for girl’s athletics in Colorado!

The Hall of Fame banquet is in conjunction with the all-state volleyball games in the fall.  You can read about the 2003 Hall of Fame inductees in the Dec 03 issue on our web site at: www.angelfire.com/alt2/ccgs
